This lecture is part of a series called Paigham-e-Azadi. The series, an initiative of the School for Democracy and NewsClick, will be based on freedom fighters, on the 74th anniversary of India’s Independence. The dream of freedom is a reality. This special address will focus on Bhagat Singh. Historian Irfan Habib will talk about him in detail.
On April 13, 1919, the British government indiscriminately shot at the innocent protesters agitating against the Rowlatt Act in Amritsar, Punjab. Hundreds of people lost their lives in this shooting. Veteran historian Irfan Habib talks about the Jallianwala Bagh massacre during an event organised by SAHMAT to mark 100 years of this massacre.
