Irfan Habib spoke at the writer’s convention, Pratirodh, held at Mavlankar Hall on the 1st of November, in solidarity with writers who have returned their awards protesting the loss of a liberal space for debate and dissent. Habib points out that unscientific approach to history is characteristic of Fascist governments and sets a precedence in Hitler’s Germany. He takes on the claim of anti-nationalism amongst liberals made by the Right Wing, and asks what role did the RSS play in the freedom struggle. He also calls for a united front of all writers to come together and fight the increasing Right wing saffronisation collectively.
