Debate is being crushed and dissent outlawed in today’s India: Nayantara Sahgal

In this Indian Writers Forum conversation, eminent writer Nayantara Sahgal talks to Githa Hariharan about the shrinking of the enriched, inclusive idea of India – which took shape as the result of the freedom struggle – into a monoculture. This monoculture is being called “Hindu”, but what is today projected as Hinduism is a travesty of Hinduism. Hindutva is a distortion of Hinduism. Today debate is being crushed and dissent has been outlawed. Dissenting writers and journalists are being shot dead by passing vigilantes.
