AIDWA, NFIW and AIPWA Joint Memorandum to NCW on the Review of Criminal Law

The National Commission for Women, which is the apex body dealing with the issue of women’s empowerment in the country, has a statutory mandate to review legal and constitutional safeguards pertaining to women. Last month the Commission decided to conduct a consultation on “Review of Criminal law.” The objective of this consultation is to review and analyze the position of law; and formulate consolidated recommendations for viable amendments keeping in view the perspective and position of women in India. The following is a joint memorandum by womens’ organisation in response to the consultation initiated by the NCW. It addresses the ‘points of discussion’ raised by NCW which includes  section 498 A of IPC, marital rape, section 125 of CrPC and other matters concerning laws related women.
